NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
The Immaculate Conception culminated in the Nativity provides a symbol for purity, innocence and love.
In September of 1620, a group persecuted for their desire to emulate these qualities in their lives set sail for an unknown land.
They called themselves Puritans, we call them Pilgrims. They saw value in the Nativity.
Today, we see that symbolism rejected by our government officials in every sector. Let me get this straight, the people we elected are against purity, innocence and love. It must be so, because they always seem to be embroiled in some sex scandal, like General Petraeus, or vile acts like New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, and the only love they seem to have is for themselves.
They endorse perversion, even the death of the innocent disguised as “choice.”
How long will America sit idly by? How long will members of Lawrence County turn a blind eye to no Nativity in Ellwood City? How long will we continue to do nothing? Can we not summon that same courage that drove the Puritans to establish something of value for themselves and generations to follow?
We can make a difference. We surround the government and their power comes from us. I propose we send a literal message to our president, senators, congressman, governors, mayors and local school boards.
We should send them a small plastic Nativity or Christmas tree with our names, addresses and phone numbers with it. If this became a national movement, millions of nativities would grace the hallowed halls of government, at least for a short time. Like all the letters sent to the court in the movie “Miracle on 34th Street.”
After all, if it were not for the birth of Jesus Christ, there would be no Christmas holiday.
