Ex-resident remained loyal to New Castle

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

Although she had lived out of town since 1966, Sue Lockley Altier remained loyal to New Castle High School, where she was treasurer of the class of 1954.

Altier, who died recently in Sarasota, Fla., at 75, attended her last reunion in 2009 with her husband, Lawrence, who survives.

A retired teacher and mother of five, Altier was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Lockley.

Mr. Lockley was a vice president of the former Lockley Machine Co. on Grove Street.

A letter writer to The News has suggested there’s plenty to be negative about when it comes to the city of New Castle. In general, are you negative or hopeful about our city?

I’m negative. Nepotism, corruption, and incompetence have ruled for years. Nothing has changed.
I’m hopeful. I view the county as a whole, so there’s a lot to be positive about.
Mixed. I think we’re like any other area. You have to take the bad with the good.
