Physician cites training regarding pain management

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

This letter is in response to the article printed in The News on Monday, “Jameson adds three new physicians.”

The article stated, “Dr. Muhammed Arif has joined the Pain Management Program. He holds the distinction of interventional pain management specialist and is a board certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician. He is a surgery trained physiatrist and the only physician in the area trained from an accredited pain management fellowship program.”

I, John D. Wrightson, M.D., FAAPMR, am board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and fellowship trained in sports, spine and musculoskeletal medicine and interventional pain management.

In order to become board certified, the physician has to have completed ACGME accredited residency and fellowship training programs and then pass a certification exam in order to become qualified in the subspecialty of pain medicine.

Therefore, the statement made by Jameson Hospital is patently false and misleading. I respectfully request that this information be corrected.

Dr. John D. Wrightson
