NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
In response to Gary F. Shaffer’s letter concerning the “harsh punishment” of Ronald Dougalewicz in The News Sept. 16.
First, let me be clear that the only victims of this tragedy are the young girl that Dougalewicz molested and her family. The victims are the ones who deserve sympathy, not the perpetrator of this heinous crime.
I have worked with violent criminals for more than 10 years and the worst type to be known as is the sex offender or SO for short.
They are the bottom of the barrel for even the criminal element. Unlike other criminals, the sex offender cannot be rehabilitated. That is the thought of most professionals and not just my thought.
They may appear to be rehabilitated, but the thoughts and urges are always there and they most likely will re-offend.
In my opinion, the only treatment that is effective for the sex offender is quarantine for life, for the safety of the general population.
I pray to God that as the father of young children, I never have the horrible experience of what Dougalewicz’s victims are going through now and for the rest of their lives.
When society begins to worry more about the treatment of sex offenders and not their victims, listen for the “almighty trumpets,” because the end is near.
