Marriage law changes would impact children

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

As legislators and judges are being asked to grapple with redefining marriage, it behooves us to consider the wisdom of such an unconventional move.

One thing that must be considered in their decision is, how will this affect children and the child welfare agencies that support children in need?

Many of these agencies provide a great service and hold to the traditional view that there is nothing better for a child than to be loved and cared for by a mother and a father who love each other.

It is heartbreaking to see that many children suffer without this ideal. However, as lawmakers appear to be pushed between views in popular culture and traditional wisdom on this issue, I hope they will look carefully and objectively at what the statistics and studies tells us is best for children.
