NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

The obituary for Dwight Copper that appeared in The News on Saturday did not mention that Dwight was the author of books related to local history.

Over many years, Dwight compiled inscriptions on gravestones in cemeteries in our city, the townships and boroughs. Dwight tramped through old and new cemeteries, including Greenwood and Parkside.

Most of the books record names and dates. Others, such as the one for Normal Glen cemetery, includes copies of obituaries.

Many of the books include cemetery maps. The book on Valley View, for example, shows the “Syrian Section.” Genealogists who use the public library’s history room will find several shelves full of these useful records.

The library’s catalog lists 99 titles under Dwight’s name.
