NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
Mother Teresa once said, “God doesn’t require us to succeed; he only requires (us) to try.”
Shamefaced creeps into my mind as I think about our world today.
In 9:7, Daniel writes, “Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame ... because of our unfaithfulness to you.”
This verse draws a distinct parallel to a story I read about a woman returning to the states after a 20-year mission. Shocked by changes in American culture, she noted topics never mentioned in conversation were blasted on billboards and primetime television.
Similarly, political candidates who would never have been considered worthy of nomination were now routinely being elected.
Distracted by social media, political egotism and corporate greed, our country’s morality is at its lowest.
What has taken over is rampant insensitivity for man.
Jesus’ words are fading and many are ashamed of nothing but God.
An abundance of faithful people are strong in prayer and special works, however, we all fall short of the glory of God.
But, God loves, cares and forgives. Like Daniel, who prayed for forgiveness for his people and nation, I’m asking for all Christians to pray together for forgiveness for ourselves, nation and people. We must mindfully choose to include God in our schools, businesses and government.
Today, we appear shamefaced allowing a few people and groups to dictate what is worthy or not.
We are blessed to live in the presence of a forgiving God.
Mark 8:38 states that “Whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this faithless and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when He comes in His Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
Together, let’s bring God back though prayer without shame. God will succeed through us if we try.
