NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
A couple weeks ago, I was passing through downtown New Castle and saw public works employees watering the hanging baskets.
So, all the streets are in such fantastic shape that city workers don’t have anything to do except water flowers?
Why aren’t they out patching potholes instead? Isn’t that what they’re paid to do, rather than ride around with sprinkling cans?
There’s a sinkhole in the middle of the Cascade Street and Butler Avenue intersection that’s been neglected all summer. How about the holes at the intersection of Long Avenue and Moravia Street as well?
Oh, and how come all of the streets surrounding St. Vitus Church have been paved, but the ones in the most dire need of resurfacing haven’t been touched?
Jackson Avenue from Arlington to Frank has been a “washboard” for at least five years, it’s nothing but patches on patches.
What about the half-fast concrete paving job on Washington Street in the downtown? That cement hasn’t been poured more than three years ago and already big chunks are broken out.
Did anyone do a lab analysis (chemistry profile) on the mix to verify the specs were on standard, or was it just a “looks good from my house” inspection?
And whose bird-brained idea were those colored individual crosswalk blocks? Some of those are heaved, sunk or broke apart as well. What an egregious waste of taxpayers money.
No wonder this city is in financial distress.
