Comcast telephone users warned on battery issue

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

People should check their monthly Comcast bills if they are telephone subscribers.

The voice modem used for this service contains a battery which users will be responsible for replacement when needed.

Comcast claims, “in the event of a electrical power outage, you will not be able to use your service including 911 calls without a battery backup.”

The FCC requires a DC backup system by cable television operators as a condition of license to conduct a telephone system. Users should not call Comcast. They must call the FCC and notify it of what Comcast is requiring them to do in order to call 911.

The number is (888) 225-5322. Citizens should file an informal complaint with them and have their billing statement ready for any information that may be requested.
