NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
All the superlatives in the world cannot render consonant advocates of abortion, and those that vote to empower such advocates with the teaching of Jesus Christ.
The “fanatical Christians” which letter writer Ann Antognoli recently cited, I call “Brown Paper Bags” or Christians by Lip Service Only, but she unwittingly made my point.
In the United States alone, since the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision, we have murdered more than double the 25 million combat casualties of World War II, and are closing in on the total deaths resulting from that war. It is apropos that I should juxtapose World War II and abortion; should the soldiers that entered the death camps of Auschwitz, Buchenwald etc., have found millions of aborted babies, do you think they would be any less appalled?
Is murdering an intrauterine human different in kind, or in degree, from murdering a human post-partum?
Truth is in fact offensive, and that is why it was, and had to be, crucified. As of yet, there is no constitutional right to not be offended.
Recently, Father Almade contrasted Jesus’ teaching on divorce, with reality of “Christian” marriage; what would be the divorce rate among Christians, if Christian’s conception of love was — as Christ’s — obedience to the law of God? Do you think married couples, denying their very selves would work out their differences?
Of course the culture doesn’t support the self-sacrifice of enduring relationships; largely because Christians are brown paper bags, whether one considers marriage, abortion, hedonism, voting for President Obama, etc., modern Christians have abandoned their cross, as did the apostles on Good Friday, years ago.
Many apostates, whom think/call themselves Christian, don’t like the assertion: “the salt has lost its flavor,” but awakening them to their duty is an act of love.
