NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

Whether you cast your vote according to your party affiliation, your religious beliefs or just your beliefs in general, it is important to remember that your vote determines the direction our country will take both at home and abroad.

This election is very important. It will decide our direction for, hopefully, the next four years, but, possibly, our direction for the next eight years.

Do you believe that one person’s religious belief should supersede an individual’s personal freedom to choose? What about regulations to keep our water and air clean; our food safe and banks, Wall Street and insurance companies on the straight and narrow?

Do you believe that corporations and billionaires are people and their rights are above the individual rights of citizens? How do you stand on collective bargaining and equal pay for women?

Do you choose war over diplomacy and large Pentagon budgets at the expense of our veterans’ care when they return home from war? Do you think the prosperity of this country begins with a strong middle class or are the wealthy the determining factor?

Is every American child deserving of a great education from quality teachers? What is your stand for police and firemen in your community? Aren’t we all deserving of dignity and a helping hand if we run into hard times or grow too old to work? Should people in this country die because they can’t afford to visit a doctor or buy their medicine?

What kind of country do you want to live in or leave to your children and grandchildren? We would like to leave the same country our parents left for us.

We are proud to support the Democratic Party. People should vote for Barack Obama.
