Possible firsts seen in city school district

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

If, as Mark Elisco reports from Florida, the New Castle school board might hire an outsider as superintendent, it would be the first time in 50 years.

George Gabriel, who recently retired as superintendent, was preceded by John E. Mathews, Russell L. Horchler and Joseph A. Martin.

Meanwhile, Gabriel is running for school board. If he is elected, that would be a first.
