LETTER: Helping hands aid in a crisis

Editor, The News:

As we all know, Feb. 5 was one of the worst snowfalls in years.

At 12:30 a.m., I received a call from my mother, who lives about three-quarters of a mile away from me.

She was having a hard time breathing and wanted me to call 911. I told her I would be right over and would call.

I called 911 and said I would meet Noga Ambulance Service at her condo. When I opened the garage door, there was no way I was getting my car out of my driveway.

I called 911 back to report that I couldn’t get there.

The dispatcher said the ambulance was on its way but the roads were terrible. Within two minutes, the dispatcher called me back to tell me the Neshannock Volunteer Fire Department was sending someone to pick me up in an all-wheel-drive vehicle to take me to my mom’s.

The ambulance was already there and taking care of her. Then the township road crew sent a plow to clear mom’s road so the ambulance could get out easier.

In all this confusion, I don’t think I expressed my gratitude to these wonderful people. So I would like to say it now.

Brian from the fire department, the dispatcher, our township road crew and the Noga EMTs were all so wonderful. Mom is doing fine.
