NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
On a regular basis with my work, I witness many families doing their very best to maintain a household budget with food.
Currently, there are more households applying for food stamp benefits than ever before with the economy as it stands.
Our community is enriched with location after location of food distributions from the Pittsburgh Food Bank and Produce to People. Lawrence County is blessed with many avenues of assistance to our families.
However, the smaller scaled food pantries, such as churches and shelters, are striving on the reliance of donations to continue to service their areas in need.
After speaking with many in the working community with ideas of how we can come together for Lawrence County to develop proceeds for these pantries, we came up with what I believe is a fun alternative to the situation.
It is a Lawrence County Talent Show fundraiser, with the proceeds to go directly to these particular food pantries.
So we are seeking the hidden talent in the community. Anyone can apply with a talent of music, singing, dancing and magic. They can submit a one-and-a-half-minute video clip to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The deadline for submissions is Aug. 31 at midnight.
All agencies and organizations and businesses may contact me at (724) 498-7902 with suggestions and/or questions or comments to assist.
