NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
America is not for everyone, contrary to popular political opinion.
As the inscription on the Statue of Liberty so aptly puts it “give us your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to be free.”
The oppressed yearning is more like abject starvation or severe dehydration. They may have never been truly free. Theirs is a desire beyond words.
America is not for the huddled Boston bombing jihadi yearning to disrupt, destroy and demoralize the populous. Taxpayer-subsidized terror, I might add. America is not for huddled masses yearning for a free hand out, rather than a hand up so the fledgling patriot can soar to freedom.
America is for those individuals who want to be truly free. For that reason, America is a special place in the world. Yet politicians have corrupted the special nature of America. We and our elected officials have lost the “American vision.”
That vision can be found in the Bible’s New Testament, Galatians 5:22-23, “... love, joy peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against these things there is no law.”
This is what the American culture runs on. This is the vision the founders saw America ascribing to.
If religion or non-religion can embrace these ideals then we welcome new patriots.
The Apostle Paul in 5:19 states the converse, “... fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing.”
If one’s ideology aligns with these things, then that person is not wanted here.
For those yearning to be free, America in many ways is like a “freedom trek.”
Freedom, the ultimate frontier. These are the voyages of the Republic, America. Its ongoing mission, to seek out new patriots, from oppressive civilizations. To boldly proclaim, “Liberty throughout the land.”
