Pope Francis reminds us of duty to poor

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

Pope Francis reminds us of a duty to the poor.

American conservatives responded with hysteria.

Rush Limbaugh accused him of peddling pure Marxism and being a papal bull.

Conservatives like Rand Paul say extending unemployment benefits would be a disservice to those receiving them. Paul Ryan wants to do away with Social Security and Medicare, and Republicans want to do away with food stamps.

I guess the measure of our nation is how we treat the poor and those who are struggling.

Thank God for President Obama, who wants health care for the people.

We finally are going to join the rest of the industrial nations in the world.
