NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
Remember the old Superman TV show?
The announcer says, “ ... disguised as a mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, he fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice and the American way.”
What did he mean by “the American way?”
The American way is standing up for what is right, regardless of what everyone else is advising them to do.
The American way is persevering against insurmountable obstacles and overcoming them.
The American way is respecting the rights of others and their property.
The American way is freedom to worship as one sees fit without ridicule or persecution.
The American way looks beyond the color of someone’s skin but judges by the content of one’s character.
The American way is scooping up a wayward toddler wandering on a country road with no adult in view and taking him to the nearest neighbor who knew who he was and where the parents were.
The American way is consoling, praying and visiting a terminally ill co-worker, reassuring him that someone outside of the family cares about what he is going through.
The American way binds us one to the other through allegiance to the flag.
The American way is the envy of the world.
