NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
For the past three years, I have left the New Castle Veterans Day parade with a feeling of sadness.
There are so few spectators and so few veterans.
I vowed for two years to do something about it and I did not. This year, I am campaigning to increase our attendance. I am writing letters to the editor, contacting the area schools and contacting area churches.
What I want to see are packed sidewalks. I want to see the whole parade route lined with people five deep. I want to see huge crowds honoring our veterans. I believe our veterans deserve our love and respect. I am also requesting that the veterans come out to be honored.
I want people to quit reading, stand up and go mark their calendars right now. I want them to vow to attend this year’s parade. Business owners should post signs inviting attendance to the parade. Pastors should put the parade in their bulletins. Principals should send a note home to families inviting them to attend the parade.
I would appreciate attendance at this year’s parade. It is Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. The parade begins at the town center. A great place to stand is on East Washington Street. I hope to see everyone there.
