Bullying in workplace poses real problems

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

I heard of another situation of bullying in high school.

It seems every news channel you turn on these days has an incident of bullying, sometimes with tragic consequences.

But the sad thing about this is we teach our elementary and high school students how to deal with this problem. But what of the adults who deal with this on a daily basis, at work, from co-workers or bosses?

How do you handle harassment, being berated, even humiliated in front of co-workers, townspeople etc., at the hands of a boss?

I’m sure plenty of people can relate to this at one time or another. How many times have people looked over their shoulders and there is the boss, looking over the partition, several times a day, or the boss drives past the office building to see if the employee’s car is in the parking lot when he/she feels the need to see if he is there.

Do people have to set their clocks five minutes back so that they don’t get accused of leaving two minutes early or being two minutes late? How many times have people been screamed at, threatened, or humiliated, or had a boss get so close and personal while yelling.

And this is a good one: The boss has a spouse scream at an employee? What is the definitive fine line between being a good boss and checking on the work of any employee, or just making that person’s life miserable so that he/she can look important and powerful?

Our laws need to be stricter with their interpretation of harassment, and be of more help to the average working man or woman. No one should have to have another sleepless night, or upset stomach or worse because of a human mistake.

Members of the Brady Bunch, now all in their 50s, recently reunited in front of screaming fans. Now the Rolling Stones, all in or nearing their 70s, are touring again. How old is too old to entertain?

You’re NEVER too old! Age is just a number — more power to ’em!
Geez! I didn’t realize they were THAT old! That’s, like, my grandpa’s age.
Not sure. But I do enjoy a good “Golden Girls” rerun in syndication. Now THAT’S entertainment!
