NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
After reading the article in The News “District takes action on PSSA erasure issue” (student yearly progress test), I have been in a quandary.
It is hard for me to understand why the New Castle school board and administration insist on keeping information away from us who spend thousands of dollars yearly to support our school district.
We have the right to know and the superintendent and board have the responsibility to keep us informed.
The district recently received the audit report for the 2011-2012 school years. The findings were disgraceful.
One of the findings determined that non-resident employees of the New Castle school system were sending their children to city schools without paying legally required tuition. In some districts, this is considered fraud and the perpetrators are prosecuted.
In New Castle, the superintendent and board refuse to reveal the names of the violators.
Under the leadership of former superintendent George Gabriel, the school district has experienced more disgraceful incidents than in all the other years it has been in existence.
He is not through. He is on the ballot for school director. When is enough enough?
The question has been asked over and over again. Where is the outrage?
Have we become so insensitive to crime and corruption in our city that we are no longer shocked?
