NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
When one enters the lobby of the new high school, one is challenged by the motto: Failure is not an option.
Part of this motto is similar to one that I follow myself. Mine states: Failure is not an end but an opportunity for reflection.
You see, I’m a person of faith, and another one that I live by is “I can do all things through The Christ, who strengthens me.” What this means is that failures are not end points but only resting points on a path that one is following. A place where one learns to strengthen oneself so he/she will be prepared for later obstacles.
Weightlifters have a slogan: No pain, no gain. These supposed failures in one’s life, albeit uncomfortable and sometimes disconcerting, are only resting points where one is to take the time to learn and grow. You are being taught something that you will need later to overcome obstacles in your path so you can continue further on your journey.
It is also written: “Narrow is the gate and straight is the path and few there are who find it.” This gate is there for all who ask, but one must first ask for it, then seek it out, then knock on the door when one finds it.
One doesn’t have to do anything to receive this gift; it is free to all who will receive it. It is also written: “Man cannot serve two masters, for he will love the one and hate the other.”
To see which one is served, one only needs to examine what is most important in his/her life. The fence can’t be straddled; one must choose a side on which to be.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Shalom.
