NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
On Oct. 8, several members of the New Visions for Lawrence County Clean and Green Committee volunteered their time at beautiful Gaston Park to uncover the stone path that goes through the woods to a bridge.
The path and bridge were built back in the 1930s, but much of the path has been buried by dirt because of run-off and neglect. We were joined by some really awesome helpers from adult probation.
We acknowledge District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa and his office for making it possible to have such great people helping us to restore beauty to an area that has been unfortunately forgotten by the residents of this city. Gaston Park is a real treasure and it is woefully underused.
We plan to gather there again on Saturday to finish the job. I can only hope we have as good a team as we did the last time. Everyone worked hard and got to learn a little about some history in our town.
We would love to see this park used as much as it should be. What would it take?
