NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
I recently decided to read the 2012 Democratic National Platform and the 2012 Republican National Platform.
In a nutshell, these “platforms” are the basic ideals that each party and party candidate stand for. Both party platforms seem to intend the common good for all U.S. citizens and are worthy of a detailed read.
However, I must point out one critical difference which I could never agree to: the Democratic stance on abortion.
I’ll quote directly from both platforms: “Protecting a woman’s right to choose, the Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe vs. Wade, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay.”
The Republican party platform: “The sanctity and dignity of human life ... we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.”
If you believe as I do, that an unborn child is worthy of protection and care, then our presidential choice is clear.
If, however, you feel compelled to vote for party regardless of candidate, then perhaps knowing your party’s platform will be of help.
