NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
Regarding the 19th annual Lawrence County Elementary All-Star Band Concert:
We had the pleasure of attending the Lawrence County Elementary All-Star Band Concert at New Castle High School on Jan. 11.
To say these youngsters are magnificent does not begin to describe the excitement and joy the band provided. The evening was delightful.
On a sour note, shame on those present in the audience who could not/would not put their mobile phones away. A woman sitting behind us sent text messages throughout the concert; we could hear the tap-tap of her keyboard the whole time.
Not only was this distracting, it was downright rude on her part. If she (or the others in the audience) could not do without her/their phones, perhaps she/they should have stayed home.
Their presence at the concert was perhaps to listen to the concert, not communicate with someone at a distance.
We would like to acknowledge the conductors, music teachers and most important, the parents of each participating student for encouraging their children in their instrument selections.
It was an honor to be part of a wonderful musical evening.
