Crime watch group applauded for event

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

On behalf of all the residents of Mahoningtown, I want to acknowledge the Mahoningtown Crime Watch for its dedication, desire and determination to keep our town safe and our traditions alive.

Community Day in Darlington Park was filled with music, food vendors, activities and old friends and new, ending the day with St. Marguerite's Blue Coat Band leading the parade to the ballfield, down Liberty Street, for a grand display of fireworks.

It was a job well done.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed “unprecedented” legislation yesterday to expand gun rights in his state. Good idea?

Yes. Expanding the scope of where people can carry guns can help halt violent crimes and make those places safer.
No. Carrying guns into bars and schools is NEVER a good idea. I think it will lead to more violence.
Not sure, but I don’t plan to visit Georgia any time soon.
