Animal group solicits funding for dog care

NEW CASTLE —

Editor, The News:
Back on July 15, 22 dogs were rescued from a house on Croton Avenue in New Castle.
Eleven of these poor animals are still in the care of a private individual who wishes to remain anonymous.
Any pet owner can imagine the veterinary bills that have been piling up getting these dogs their shots and getting them fixed.
The Lawrence County Animal Relief Fund was founded several years back to get a humane officer for Lawrence County and to help injured, neglected animals. We have, in fact helped, with these dogs, but are seeking additional donations.
Those who would like to help can send their tax-deductible donations to LCARF, Box 8514, New Castle, Pa. 16107.
They may specify use for these particular animals if they like.
People also may help by attending our dance at Cascade Park on Sept. 13. Details can be found at www.lcarf.com.
We can help stop pet misery by having our pets spayed or neutered.

  • Patriotic attire rule offends veteran

Editor, The News: On July 2, as I was checking out of our local Wal-Mart, something happened that disturbed me. A cashier went to the cashier in my lane and said orders had come down from the store manager that no one was allowed to wear any patriotic shirts, pins, symbols or anything showing patriotic colors from July 4 to July 11.

Editor, The News: I have paid the local hospital almost $1,500 in co-payments because my supplemental insurance was turned into a health maintenance organization, which was allowed to override my Medicare coverage.
