NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
We are fortunate that we live in a country where the people can choose who they want to represent them in government.
On May 21, New Castle residents will be nominating Democratic and Republican candidates for the four open seats on the school board and three seats on city council. It is very important that every voter take a few minutes to become familiar with the candidates and vote on May 21.
It is a known fact that those who receive the benefits of favoritism are among the super voters, and they will turn out at every election. A light voter turnout plays to their advantage. By not voting, people forfeit their right to advocate for good government and they are telling politicians we do not need a change.
This is going to be an important school board election. Voters are going to be able to decide whether they want to return to the old politics of favoritism and nepotism that have benefited a few at the expense of the students and taxpayers, or move forward.
The school board needs to focus on the $100 million in debt that it has acquired and hire a superintendent without political connections. Our city deserves better.
