Frankly, I am sick and tired of the platitude “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families.”
The repugnancy of this fake warm, fuzzy feeling of duty is because it settles into complacency every time. We have witnessed it after Virginia Tech after Aurora, Colo., and now after Newtown, Conn.
Nancy Lanza, the shooter’s mother, owned the assault weapon that put 11 rounds in 6-year-olds in seconds. Nancy Lanza passed the background check. We know how that Second Amendment right to a “well-regulated militia” worked out for Nancy.
Nancy Lanza knew her son had mental problems, yet she took him to shooting ranges. In addition, Nancy Lanza failed to secure the weapons. The irresponsible Nancy Lanza reaped what she sowed. Nancy Lanza is the NRA.
Those critical of this letter should be forced to view the pictures of Sandy Hook Elementary School. The children in Newtown were identified by clothing and dental records. Nothing much remained. Those critical of this letter are enablers of people like Nancy and Adam Lanza.
No one, and I repeat no one, is looking to take away anyone’s hunting rifle or handgun. How many take a Bushmaster hunting? It is time for responsible gun owners to speak up and sign the petition to end gun violence at www.demandaplan.org.
Those who solely say they have “the right” must believe the gub-mint will send Blackhawk helicopters at dawn to take their chickens and wives. Their moral recalcitrance places responsibility for the record number of assault weapon sales days after the carnage. I suspect their children also have the new NRA iPhone shooting app.
A doctor interviewed after the Newtown carnage said, “We got the call to be prepared, but they never brought the children. They never brought the children.”
