Legion Christmas party support appreciated

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

We would like to show our appreciation to the Lawrence County courthouse, the city of New Castle, The News, all of the donors and veterans who made our Christmas party at Perry S. Gaston Post 343, 134 N. Jefferson St., so successful.

Our American Legion has other events throughout the year, such as the Four Chaplins Memorial which takes place on Feb. 12. The 6 p.m. refreshments and admission are free and open to the public, People should call (724) 658-3990 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

We will also have our annual picnic in July. Perry S. Gaston Post 343 is 400 members strong and always seeking new members or those who want to transfer into it who have been honorably discharged.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
