Concerns expressed over writer’s views

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

After reading Joseph Waltenbaugh’s letter on Dec. 15, I felt compelled to respond.

I am a Lawrence County Democratic Committee member, so I guess I fit into the category of “misfits and deviants.”

About 75 years ago, a madman in Germany classified a group of people as misfits and deviants. He built concentration camps and herded them into them so that he could exterminate them.

I hope law enforcement is keeping an eye on Waltenbaugh and I hope he doesn’t have access to firearms. I am even thinking of asking the New Wilmington police to keep an eye on my house.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed “unprecedented” legislation yesterday to expand gun rights in his state. Good idea?

Yes. Expanding the scope of where people can carry guns can help halt violent crimes and make those places safer.
No. Carrying guns into bars and schools is NEVER a good idea. I think it will lead to more violence.
Not sure, but I don’t plan to visit Georgia any time soon.
