Signs of the season show major changes

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

It seems this year there were fewer houses decorated, maybe fewer wreaths on the door and hardly any lighted trees in the front widows.

We did send cards, but the ones that came in were not the ones we sent to, just figure.

To be a true shopper, you had to get up at 5 a.m. That’s when the door busters came out.

Once you found the perfect gift, boxed it and wrapped it, it was 40 percent off the next day. And if you waited a week, it was 60 percent off.

Of course, people still took holiday pictures, only not with a camera but their telephone.

Of course, they never will be printed out, and certainly never enlarged. But you will have some great 2-by-3-inch pictures.

The three wise men are Kmart, Target and Walmart.

Even the church is out of sync and midnight is now at 6:30 p.m.

You know what Scrooge said.

Beginning tonight, the Pittsburgh Penguins will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round of the NHL playoffs. So, who ya got? And in how many games?

Penguins, in five games or fewer. Too much firepower for the Blue Jackets, especially if Evgeni Malkin is ready to go.
Penguins, in six or seven games. It’s a pretty even matchup on defense, but Pittsburgh will grind it out.
Blue Jackets, in five games or fewer. Sergei Bobrovsky in goal for the Blue Jackets spells trouble for the Pens.
Blue Jackets, in six or seven games. Bobrovsky gives Columbus the edge, but it won’t be easy.
