NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
The News has recently reported that the Lawrence County taxes will increase by 7 percent, yet county employees will all receive a pay raise.
When is the last time anyone employed in this area received a raise anywhere close to 7 percent?
I’m not saying county employees will receive a raise anywhere near this percent, and I am positive they will not, but how can any raise be justified when our government officials decide to impose such an increase?
All one has to do is drive down any street in New Castle to see that our residents can no longer afford the taxes that are being imposed upon us. Homes are not only listed for sale, but are abandoned. Arson is rampant, and what easier targets than abandoned properties?
Where are the tax dollars that are supposedly being received from the fracking being done in our county going? And if this is not sufficient to pay the 7 percent, isn’t it time to renegotiate our deal?
Or is this just another Lawrence County government fraud lining more of our elected officials’ pockets?
