Malfunctioning meter won’t get a refund

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

I am a member of the YMCA.

When I parked at the meters on the side of the YMCA by the handicap parking, I put $2 in the meter and pushed the button and got 10 minutes and an error message.

I moved my car to the Y parking lot next to Burger King because I did not want a ticket.

I went in the Y and told the person at the desk that the meter was not working and she commented there were other people who put money in it and got 10 minutes also, and they moved their vehicles too.

When I was leaving the Y, I went to the city building to report the problem and get a refund. The parking guy told me the city does not refund and I am out the $2. My response was really?

He wanted to know why I moved my vehicle. Because I didn’t want to get a ticket I said. He then responded that I wouldn’t have to pay the ticket if the meter was not working. I said to him I would rather be out the $2 than get a ticket.

So if you park and put money in the meter that does not work you will not get a refund from the city of New Castle.
