Support for the team unified the community

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

Welcoming the Hurricane AAAA State Champions back to New Castle, we heard Coach Ralph Blundo talk of our outstanding team, the fan support and the many people who have been a part of “this journey.”

I was reminded of why I love New Castle.

For the semifinal game in Chambersburg, our city police got five buses. The more-than-affordable price included a T-shirt, the bus ride, a sub sandwich and admission because of supporters like Dallas Hartman, Higher Level Apparel and others.

Again, the police escorted eight buses to the championship game in Hershey. Wendy Litrenta and others provided many added perks on fan buses. And this fan support seemed to help this game outcome.

Great newspaper coverage and Mike White’s columns began to inspire fans outside the area.

Modern technology allowed for individuals from all over the U.S. to plan for reunions in Hershey. Chocolate World and various hotels were abuzz with laughter of families and friends renewing friendships.

Many commented on “The Cane Train.” At rest stops on the turnpike, ushers in the Giant Center, clerks in the various hotels and wait staff in the restaurants would state how much fun the fans were and how loud we could cheer.

One of the highlights was seeing Jake McPhatter’s father arrive at the championship game as a surprise to Jake. Everywhere people helped others get tickets, get directions, get food and to feel loved.

Guided to love and care for each other, the team played together. Likewise, the fans put into action the word “Together” printed on the backs of their shirts.

The county joined together for the Red Hurricane as it has to help others in need. Let’s continue to remember together, we can accomplish much for our town, New Castle — the Right Place.

Have you held or will you hold a garage/yard sale this year?

I have and it was a success! It's a great way to get rid of some junk and make a little extra pocket money.
I have, but it didn't go over so well. Better luck next time?
I haven't yet, but I plan to.
I haven't and I don't plan to. It's not for me.
