NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

We are grateful to the Lawrence County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association for hosting a tailgate party at The Meadows for the Penn State vs. Virginia game in September.

We sincerely appreciate that the group felt, in light of the recent scandal at Penn State University, that it wanted to do its part to help those who have been victims of abuse by choosing to donate proceeds from the event to provide services to victims at the crisis shelter.

From all of us at the shelter, we want to acknowledge their caring and sharing.

The crisis shelter acts as the community’s response to violence and abuse, offering comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other serious crimes, as well as prevention education.

We offer a secure, dignified refuge where healing can begin and hope can be restored and are committed to breaking the cycle of violence.
