Community shows support for needs of crisis shelter

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

It is Christmas this week at the Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County, and the halls that are normally subdued rang with the joyful sounds of laughter, happiness and gratitude.

Why? Because our community met the needs of others with unbelievable goodness.

Young people and old received a taste of true Lawrence County hospitality and it was good. No, it was great.

I am grateful to the many who provided gifts, money and volunteer support so that others could have a better Christmas. I can tell you, after watching the response, that many, many felt their love this year.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed “unprecedented” legislation yesterday to expand gun rights in his state. Good idea?

Yes. Expanding the scope of where people can carry guns can help halt violent crimes and make those places safer.
No. Carrying guns into bars and schools is NEVER a good idea. I think it will lead to more violence.
Not sure, but I don’t plan to visit Georgia any time soon.
