People must build spirit on solid ground of God

NEW CASTLE — Editor, The News:

I heard one time it’s better to be a mile from hell heading away from it than 1,000 miles away and heading for it.

This isn’t scriptural, but it makes one think. What’s our building material going to be this year, sand or rock?

If we hear the sayings of Christ and do them, He says He will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.

When rains came, floods and wind blew, it fell not, for it was founded on a rock.

But if we hear His sayings and do them not, we are like a foolish man, who built on sand. When the rain winds and flood came, it fell. And great was the fall (Matthew 8:24-27).

Certainly these elements will take out the natural house. But we’re talking about the spiritual house.

Remember the song with the words, “On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand?” The Bible says what does it profit a man should he gain the whole world and lose his soul,” (Matthew 16:26).

Remember the story of the rich fool? I will say to my soul, soul, thou has much goods laid up for many years. Take it easy. Eat, drink and be merry. But God said, you fool. This night your soul shall be required of thee. So is he that layeth up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God. Read Luke 12:16-21.

We don’t know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future.

Let’s all build on the rock this year.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13).
