LETTER: Annual toy drive returns
Editor, The News:
Once again, the New Castle Area Marine Corps League Detachment #788 is asking for public support for the Toys for Tots campaign.
The league assists the Marine Corps Reserves, which sponsors the Toys for Tots Foundation nationally and in Lawrence County.
Each year, many needy children in Lawrence County receive toys from Toys for Tots though the City Rescue Mission and Salvation Army, which process and distribute the toys for the Marine Corps League. Children served by the following local agencies are also receiving toys through our program: Children and Youth Services, A.R.C., Crisis Center of Lawrence County, I CARE House, and the autistic classes at Union Elementary and Ellwood City High School.
Last year, the league distributed 5,890 toys to 1,472 children in Lawrence County.
We feel that the many volunteers who make Toys for Tots possible year after year embody the true spirit of Christmas. The gift of a new toy, something most children take for granted, means someone cares, that children haven’t been forgotten, that Christmas hasn’t passed them by.
The Marine Corps League will have collection boxes placed in schools and businesses around the county to receive contributions of new, unwrapped toys.
All children deserve a little Christmas. We urge people to help our campaign. Local drop-off locations can be found on our Web site at new-castle-pa.toysfortots.org.
Financial contributions can be made payable to the Toys for Tots Foundation and mailed to me at 1131 Cleland Mill Road, New Castle, Pa. 16102.
