Is it just me, or can you see the hypocrisy in the Christian right’s unwavering support of the Republican Party and its approach to politics?

They want our government to enforce their version of Christianity, allow their organized prayer in public school, displays of their religious symbols — such as the Ten Commandments — to hang on the walls of government buildings, their religious holiday ideas displayed on public property.

They want to enforce their ideas of the family unit and no one else’s. They want to decide what can be taught in our schools.

One would think that if they push so strongly these issues, they would carry their religious beliefs over into other areas where our government can help in real ways the lives of God’s people. Instead, they oppose almost every effort.

The current debate over health care is a prime example, although it’s only one of many.

Do they believe health care is a right or a privilege? What would be Jesus’ answer to this question?

It amazes me, the lack of concern they have for others less fortunate than themselves. I suggest a reading of Matthew 25: 31-46, where Jesus gives an important lesson in inheriting eternal life.

How can they justify their opposition to so many programs that help God’s people?

Greg Harmon stated in his recent letter that one of our God-given rights is life. How then can he say modern health care that helps continue that life is not a right?
