In the U.S., more than 70 percent of the population claims that they are Christians.

That number is astounding to me, and causes me to question what they mean by being a “Christian.”

A Christian is one who believes in Jesus Christ, in His death and resurrection, who follows His teaching and is willing to submit to His lordship in all areas of life.

That is why I always find the presidential elections so revealing. When I see a Barack Obama sign in someone’s yard, I know that person is not a true Christian — for a true Christian would not be able to support the tenets of the Democratic Party.

They go directly against the teachings of Christ in regard to homosexuality and abortion. Therefore, a vote for a Democrat is a vote against the teachings of Christ, something a true believer could not do.

There will be no perfect government until Jesus returns to this Earth and is ruler over all. But until then, if people are true followers of His, these individuals will vote for the people or party that most closely aligns themselves with His principles.

If they don’t, then I will question the authenticity of their so-called Christianity.
