LETTER: ATM rules may be similar

New Castle News

Editor, The News:

This is in response to the letter from Andrea Householder regarding the ATM machine.

I recently had a similar experience, although it was of my own making.

After using my card at an ATM of my own bank, I neglected to take the card after my transaction was completed.

In these situations, I learned that the ATM captures and holds the card.

I did not notice the missing card until several days later, at which time I contacted my bank. I was told that in such instances, the card is held for 24 hours, during which time you can claim it.

After that time, the card is destroyed and you must go in and fill out an application for a new card. Then you must wait 10 to 14 days to receive it in the mail.

This is what I had to do, and apparently this is the policy of most banks.
