LETTER: Motorists toss trash on street
New Castle News
Editor, The News:
Have you ever walked or driven down Oak Street? I do because I live on Oak Street.
Great folks live on our street. Some folks who drive on our street think nothing of it and throw their trash out their car windows and drive off like it was nothing.
I have seen drivers throw paper cups, bottles, candy wrappers and cigarette packs out.
They also do not want their lunch or supper trash either. Out go the fast-food bags. That is where most of the trash on our street comes from.
I walked downtown the other day. All along the sidewalk of Oak, down to East Washington was trash. Some parts of the street have less trash, and other sections of Oak Street look like the city dump for sure.
There are some folks who walk up and down the street that do this as well. They have a candy bar or soft drink, don’t know what to do with it when finished, down it goes. Or, even better, they put it in the hedges.
I bet there is not one who does this to our streets (not just Oak Street) who did not learn at the age of 2 or younger where the trash can is. If out, they can wait until they find a can or take it home with them and throw it in their trash.
What is so hard about that?
Do others enjoy walking as I do? Would they rather have a nice walk, or one that irritates them?
I wonder what they teach their children — to do as they are shown? That question should be in our hearts and minds with everything in life.
We do not want other people’s trash. We want a nice street and nice sidewalks.
