LETTER: Restrictions imposed on freedom
New Castle News
Editor, The News:
It is so very important to understand the true meaning of the word “freedom.”
And it is so very important that we understand there are restrictions that are put upon these “freedoms.” It sounds contradicting, but in reality it is not.
Take, for example, the freedom to own and possess guns. Owners are responsible for the proper handling of these weapons. If irresponsible behavior is brought to light, this freedom is likely to be denied.
Take freedom of speech. The restriction is one must be truthful. When one speaks untruths of another, there could be physical retaliation or perhaps a lawsuit.
Take freedom of the press. Again it must be truthful and it must be accurate. If not, then there are consequences.
There is no doubt that one freedom has gone haywire to the extent that people have lost their ability to discern right from wrong. That freedom is the freedom of choice.
The true meaning of choice is the right to terminate the life of what is developing into a human being.
This has been going on for many, many, many years and since it has been going on for such a long time, people are beginning to loose their ability to discern right from wrong.
When a wrong goes on for long periods of time, there is a tendency to accept such behavior as acceptable. Example, there was a general in the American Army who would periodically refer to someone as an SOB.
It was on TV many times. It was in newspapers, magazines, etc. after a period of time, people thought nothing of it.
We pray that this does not happen to freedom of choice. We believe it is the terminator of what would have developed into a human being in the womb of a pregnant woman.
