I found Mitchel Olszak’s column on reforming county government quite interesting, although very one-sided.

He hints of rumors and innuendo, then does the exact same thing in the column. He, on one hand, tells of Commissioner Vogler asking about the Sunshine Law, and advises him to file a complaint. Then he hints the commissioners may violate the same law. I wonder if Olszak has filed a complaint?

He writes of District Attorney Bongivengo incorrectly declaring the League of Women Voters a PAC, then backs this up with information that is incorrect. The ad placed in the newspaper by the League stated the names of the six candidates and explained how to vote for them.

If that is not promoting candidates, I am not sure what it is. I can also attest that at a candidates night in downtown New Castle a week before the election sponsored by the League of Women Voters, there was special emphasis placed on the six candidates and papers with the candidates names on them were handed out by members of the league. That looks like promoting a candidacy to me.

There is some important information missing from the article. One item is that a member of the League of Women Voters worked as an election official. This official was very active in promoting the government study and according to my information should have recused herself from working inside the polls.

Olszak speaks of rumors about one of the commission members. I would give Olszak the same advice he gave Vogler, check it out and file a complaint is the rumor justifies it.

This issue is an example of the freedom of the press and the American justice system. Let’s see where the system takes us.
