LETTER: New Castle may suffer more losses
New Castle News
Editor, The News:
I have never written a letter to The News before, but I feel our city has a dire need.
I am writing in regard to the article in the June 20 edition, “Mail facility earns temporary win.”
In reading this article, I did not feel New Castle had a temporary win. We are told in the article there was never a plan to close the whole mail processing facility in the city, only to move some operations to Pittsburgh.
I have nothing against Pittsburgh, but the last time they did our mail in Pittsburgh, it took three to five days to get a letter back to New Castle.
My concern is that if the postal service moves out one operation, how do we know it won’t slip a few more operations out of town?
While I believe U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire did a good job researching this, I do not feel the outlook is good for New Castle. I feel we will eventually lose it all and our great post office will be another ghost building with many jobs lost.
We sit back and think these problems won’t touch us, but we all need to remember how many empty buildings grace our downtown area.
We let Huntington Bank take hundreds of jobs out of our community and never said a word. Let’s not let the U.S. Postal Service do the same thing to our community.
