Josephine “Josie” Polis, 85, of 202 Gregg St., Ellwood City, died the morning of July 4, 2008, at Ellwood City Hospital.
Born on April 18, 1923, in Ellport, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Felicia Zukowski Savicky.
She married Patsy C. Polis on June 19, 1943. He died Dec. 16, 2006.
A 1943 graduate of Ellwood City’s Lincoln High School, Mrs. Polis was a member of the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary and the Salvation Army Women’s Fellowship.
She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, where she served as a greeter and was a member of Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by a daughter, Melanie Mudric of Center Township, Beaver County; three sons, Pat Polis of Knoxville, Tenn., John Polis of Fairmont, W.Va. and James F. Polis of Ellwood City; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Polis was preceded in death by one brother, Anthony Savicky; and three step-brothers: Andrew Jarosz, Frank Jarosz and Anthony Koukowski.
Calling hours are at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Joseph A. Tomon Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Ave., Ellport. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Redeemer Church, Ellwood City. Entombment will be in Slippery Rock Church Cemetery.
