    All the scores Wednesday night at Taggart Stadium were of the musical variety rather than touchdowns. The home of New Castle High’s football team was the site of the 33rd annual Lawrence County Marching Band Festival. Laurel High School, under the direction of Nathan Daubenspeck, was the host band.

  • Laurel OKs leaves for two teachers

    The Laurel School Board has granted leaves of absence to two teachers. Morgan Richards, a high school teacher, was granted a six- to eight-week leave beginning around Dec. 19. That will be followed by a leave under the Family Medical Leave Act during the second semester of the current school year.

  • Laurel sets new student registration

    All families who have relocated to the Laurel School District are expected to register their children for school. Children entering grades 7 through 12 who are newcomers should be registered if they live in Harlansburg, Hickory or Slippery Rock townships.

    Michael Krol is retiring as secondary principal for the Laurel School District, effective June 30. The school board accepted his retirement this week. The board reassigned Kevin Mahoney from a 10-month secondary principal to a 12-month secondary principal, effective for the 2012-13 school year.
