The Neshannock, New Castle and Laurel high squads were satisfied with the seeds they received when opening-round matchups were announced last night at a meeting at the DoubleTree Hotel.

The Laurel High girls cross country team had no such problem yesterday, successfully defending its Class A crown at the WPIAL Championships at Cooper’s Lake, thus leading the list of local qualifiers for the PIAA Championships on Nov. 2 in Hershey.

    The scoreboard may say otherwise, but really, there was no loser in this game. Sure, Riverside claimed its second-straight Tri-County Middle School Football League title with a 20-14 win over Laurel last night at Spartan Stadium. But for both teams, the contest marked a triumph of resilience and determination.

  • Laurel1.tiff WPIAL Volleyball Playoffs: Laurel earns first playoff win in years

    It has been more than six years since the Laurel High girls volleyball team has won a WPIAL playoff match. The Lady Spartans had to work to make it happen last night, but happen it did. Laurel needed all five games to outlast Geibel Catholic 25-10, 25-27, 26-24, 20-25, 15-12 in a WPIAL Class A preliminary-round game at North Allegheny High School.

  • Concert to benefit Laurel foundation

    The Laurel Community Foundation is sponsoring fundraising concert Saturday, Phase IV, a 1980s cover band from the Pittsburgh area, will perform at St. John’s Hall. The group, which plays at Jergel’s in Wexford and North Park Lounge in Cranberry, performs selections from John Mellencamp, Men at Work, Sublime Poison, Def Leppard, Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam and Paul Simon, along with ’80s, ’70s and old-fashioned rock-and-roll mixed in.

    The Laurel School Board has hired a secondary science teacher. Jennifer Horodosky was approved for the position at a prorated salary of $55,151.

    The Laurel School Board has hired a long-term substitute teacher in the secondary science department. Suzanne Dado was named to the position for the 2013-14 school year at a salary of $25,000 on a pro-rated basis.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to authorize Speaker John Boehner to sue President Obama for allegedly overstepping his legal authority with the way he's handled Obamacare. Good call?

Yes. Obama's been overstepping his authority since day one in office. It's time he pay the piper.
No. The allegations are ridiculous and the law suit is a waste of time and tax payer money.
I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of Obama, but the suit seems a little extreme.
