NEW CASTLE — All families who have relocated to the Laurel School District are expected to register their children for school.

Children entering grades 7 through 12 who are newcomers should be registered if they live in Harlansburg, Hickory or Slippery Rock townships.

Registration is by appointment with the high school guidance resource office at (724) 598-9931.

The appointment with the school counselor will require the following information: state birth certificate, Social Security card, final report card, proof of residency and immunization records according to state law.

Pennsylvania School Code also mandates a signed and notarized safe schools affidavit available in guidance resource, stating the child has never been suspended or expelled for an alcohol, weapons, drugs or fighting violation.

The completed affidavit is required by Laurel School District before any enrollment process can proceed.

Orientation night for Laurel parents is Aug. 23, beginning at 5:45 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Schedules and information packets will be distributed and the evening will include building tours, introductions to administrative, pupil services and support staff.

Student class schedules for next school year have been completed and will be mailed to homes by the second week of August. Schedule changes may be requested in person or by phone before Aug. 8.

While changes due to errors will be appreciated, the district will not grant changes of periods or teachers because of class size restraints.

The district’s first day of school will be Aug. 27.
