Concert to benefit Laurel foundation

NEW CASTLE — The Laurel Community Foundation is sponsoring fundraising concert Saturday,

Phase IV, a 1980s cover band from the Pittsburgh area, will perform at St. John’s Hall. The group, which plays at Jergel’s in Wexford and North Park Lounge in Cranberry, performs selections from John Mellencamp, Men at Work, Sublime Poison, Def Leppard, Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam and Paul Simon, along with ’80s, ’70s and old-fashioned rock-and-roll mixed in.

The doors will open at 7 p.m., with the concert starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 and include beverages and food for those 21 and older. Tickets will be available at the door.

The non-profit Laurel Community Foundation was founded in 2002 to enhance the educational experiences of Laurel School District students. Since its inception, the foundation has granted in excess of $70,000 to district teachers to fund classroom projects.

In addition, scholarships are awarded to students with outstanding senior projects and a Super Spartan Award is presented to an outstanding student who excels not only in the classroom, but in the community.

Proceeds from Saturday’s fundraiser will help the Laurel Community Foundation carry on its work in the school district.
