NEW CASTLE —
The Laurel School Board has approved a four-year contract with its teachers.
The contract calls for pay increases of $2,200 in the first year, $2,100 in the second and third years, and $2,200 in the fourth year.
Business manager Mary Kosek said the increases average a little more than 3 percent per year. She said the raises for the district’s 89 teachers are the same as the current four-year contract.
The Laurel Education Association has ratified the agreement, which runs from Sept. 1, 2013, through Aug. 31, 2017.
The contract also increases the deductible on health insurance from $150 to $1,250 for single coverage and from $300 to $2,500 for family coverage. Kosek said the change will reduce the district’s insurance rate by about 19 percent.
The number of in-service days also was increased from six to seven.
An attempt to reach Steven Skerbetz, Laurel Education Association president, was unsuccessful.
